Dress with belt and matching silk jacket, both of animal-friendly silk and a hand-block print of environmentally-friendly dyes. The jacket is available separately.
The dress is made of silk cocoons that have been checked manually. Only when the silkworms have turned into moths are the cocoons used to make silk fabric. This is woven by hand. The process was developed in India by Kusuma Rajaiah and patented as Ahimsa silk. Literally: non-violent side.
The print of the dress is manually applied to the fabric. Block printing is an old technique that uses wooden blocks with a cut pattern. They are used as stamps. The dyes used are 100% environmentally friendly. Printing is done in the Tharangini studios in Bangalore, the oldest handblock printing company in India and entirely devoted to fair trade, sustainability and supporting women in marginalized positions.
