This large organic cotton shawl is handwoven in Bhuj (Gujarat), India. The indigo dye is made by the weaver himself.
The piece of cloth is large enough to use it as hammam towel for the sauna or as a sheet for a picnic. Of course you can also completely wrap it around yourself in the winter. Super cosy!
The cotton used is the so-called Kala cotton. A species that grows naturally in Gujarat and does not require extra fertilizer or pesticides. In contrast to regular organic cotton, Kala cotton needs no extra water, a little rainwater is enough for it to grow. Because the cotton is fully adapted to local conditions, it can easily be grown organically. It is also a species that is only spun by hand. The great thing about this durable cotton is that it gets softer over time.
Indigo is a beautiful blue dye and is handmade by the weaver. It requires craftsmanship to allow the indigo plants to ferment in barrels (sometimes many years) and then to immerse the cotton yarns in the fabric for long enough for the right color.
