A dress for the Christmas season, for parties and special occasions. Designed by two women from Mumbai from the exclusive zero-waste clothing label Kishmish.
Nikki and Rekha designed this dress based on a couture dress, specially made for one of their regular customers from New York. It is a two-layered dress: a very finely woven black dress with the layer of beautiful gold and silverware falling over it like a second dress.
The gold and silver thread is woven and is called zari. A technique of weaving with very thin metal threads. Pure gold and silver were used in ancient times, and such dresses were therefore reserved for royal families.
At Kishmish they work zero-waste. All material from a collection is reused in the following collection. The silk trim at the sleeves and along the bottom is recycled silk. Textile residues that are too small and can't be reused are ground to a pulp and then made into thick paper.
