This simple dress with a beautiful pattern is a piece of craftsmanship that fewer and fewer people master: dyeing and weaving according to ikat technique.
The dress is made of soft cotton, falls below the knee and you tie it together at the waist with a wide, long belt in a bow or you can wrap around your waist. The model is a design by House of Wandering Silk. The fabric is designed and made in the Indian state of Telangana.
With Ikat the yarn is tied off in the pattern in which the yarn will be woven later. You can read more about it in the blog about Ikat. This dress is made with double ikat. This means that both warp and weft are both dyed in a pattern. The warp is tensioned exactly in the pattern and the weft must be woven in exactly the pattern.
This picture shows how the warp is stretched in the pattern because the sunlight passes through it
