A shining warm wrap or shawl of merino wool and silk with a beautiful blue color. Handwoven and dyed with vegetable dyes at Avani, a sustainable collective in the foothills of the Himalayas.
The shawl is hand woven with merino wool and wild Tussar silk by weavers in a remote mountain village. They receive a fixed salary for weaving scarves for Avani.
Tussar is wild silk from the moth Antheraea Paphia, also called the emperor moth. The moths live in trees and their silk thread cocoons naturally have a golden sheen. For this shawl the moths were not killed for this silk, but the caterpillars have left the silk cocoon before the cocoon is used to spin silk.
