Himalayan Weavers was founded by Ghayur and Patricia Alam in 2005 to support hand weaving and the use of natural dyes in the Himalayas.
They live and work in a small village Masrana in the Himalayas. Their home and dye workshop is on a ridge overlooking both the Himalayan peaks and the Dehradun valley.
Ghayur and Patricia work with a number of communities in the area to make hand-woven scarves. The yarns for the scarves are hand-dyed with natural dyes such as sappanwood, madder, tesu (flame of the forest), indigo, pomegranate, myrobalan (harada), henna and shellac.
Weaving is done on traditional looms in villages near Dehradun.Part of Himalayan Weavers' profits are used for education and health care in the villages.
