A beautifully shiny scarf made of a special fabric: chanderi. The fabric is made by interweaving cotton and silk. The result: a feather-light, chic fabric. This is made in the eponymous place Chanderi in India. The only place in India with a community of weavers who have been weaving chanderi for many generations.
Natural indigo is a vegetable dye that comes in many shades. It all depends on the quality of the barrel of indigo (fermented leaves of the Indigo plant) and whoever dyes the fabric with it. The longer the fabric is dipped in the indigo dye, the darker the indigo blue.
The pattern of the scarf is manually printed with wooden stamps (hand block print). The stamp cutter makes a block of wood with the correct pattern and the dyer dips the stamp in indigo and prints the fabric. A precise job for which the conditions must be ideal: a dry and warm climate.
The scarve is designed in the studio of fashion designer Soham Dave and made by a collective of craftsmen in Gujarat (North West India).
