A lovely button-down dress, also wearable as overlay. You have absolute freedom of movement in this dress. The cotton is a soft, supple, hand-woven fabric, dyed with environmently friendly dyes.
The dress is a design by Rias in Jaipur. Rias is a young fashion label of two designers closely associated with weaving families in the Murshidabad district of West Bengal. Their passion is to keep the ancient weaver's craft alive and to support the families who have elevated the craft to a true art for generations.
In the seventeenth century, Europea discovered the wonderful, gossamer woven cotton from West Bengal (then: Dakha). It was called muslin. At the time, the fabric was woven from an indigenous cotton type: Putti Karpas. Unfortunately, this species is extinct.
Muslin has been praised and described by poets as "woven air" or "morning mist". Putti Karpas may have been replaced by other species, but the weavers of West Bengal are still unsurpassed in their weaving skills.
Airy, soft and yet sturdy: this cotton is a boon for your skin.
