This velvet silk dress is special in many ways. The beautiful symmetrical floral pattern on the fabric is a traditional Ajrak motif and printed with wooden stamps. The colors used are purely natural. In this blog you can read more about blokprint and Ajrakh (Dutch).
Velvet
Velvet is woven on a special loom using 'rods'. It is a labour-intensive process in which rods make loops from the fluff (the pile) of the silk that is woven. The loops can be cut open with a knife (or not). Either way, the velvet effect is always stunning.
The dress has a generous velvet belt and is finished with brass buttons.
