Sturdy black denim jacket with a charming round collar. Denim is used as a synonym for jeans, but is that right? Yes and no. Denim is a weaving technique, a so-called twill weave. You can recognize it by the diagonal line in the fabric. This way of weaving makes the fabric sturdy and durable.
The fabric of this jacket is handwoven in Khamir. That is a weaving cluster in northwestern India in the state of Gujarat. Here the weavers work with an old, native cotton that has been organically grown in this region for centuries. To weave denim, a special loom is needed (of at least 3 shafts). It is therefore a weaving technique that not every weaver masters and for which special training is required.
The paint for this jacket is also made in Khamir. Making black paint with, among other things, oxidized iron, nuts and flowers is a time-consuming process. The dye never becomes inky black, but brownish black. A 'soft' black, as it were.
