Unique stylish layered dress of fine Indian organic cotton, hand woven and hand spun. Lovely natural Sand colour. Read more..
This layered dress is soft and comforable due to it's fabric: pure, indigenous Indian cotton. The cotton is hand woven and spun by hand. If you want to know more about the makers behind this dress, read on about the fashion label Upasana
Indian cotton is rare. Indigenous cotton species of India are almost completely displaced by the American species. Via India supports designers who work with farmers who grow these old, indigenous cotton species.
Manual spinning and weaving is called khadi in India. An expression that symbolizes India's independence. In the 1930s, Mahatma Gandhi began to spin and weave his own clothes. Many politicians followed his example. It was an economic strategy to send a signal to the British who flooded the Indian market with their own textiles.
Khadi is the opposite of fast fashion. If you buy clothes from khadi, you help local hand spinners and weavers. They work in freedom, get respect for their skills and get paid properly.
