Ankle-length gray-white trousers in thin summer cotton. Handwoven with tie-and-dye ikat technique. Elastic waistband at the back. Fairly and sustainably produced. Read more..
Ankle-length summer trousers in light cotton woven in a grey-white pattern. Due to the elastic at the back of the waistband, the fabric folds and gives wonderful freedom of movement. Lovely summer pants. Easy to combine with a white or black blouse or t-shirt.
The motif in the fabric was created by coloring with the so-called Ikat technique. Cotton yarn is tied off with rubber bands in a specific pattern. The tied pieces of yarn remain undyed when the cotton strands are dyed. Then the yarn must be woven into fabric in the same pattern. An example of great ingenuity.
The top is a design by the clothing label Upasana. The design studio is located in Auroville, a special enclave near Pondicherry in South India. Auroville is a community where residents from all over the world have settled. There are 170 social enterprises that provide employment to more than 5000 people from villages in the area. Upasana is one of those social enterprises.
(Note: depending on the leg length, the pants fall calf-high or over the ankle. See photos of both models)
