Wide legged cotton pants with ikat motif. A contemporary design from the design studio of Akaaro. The black and white motif is topstitched horizontally for a fantastic relief effect.
Ikat is the name for a special tie-and-dye technique in which fabric is tied and dyed. With Ikat, the cotton yarn is tied off in the places where the paint is not allowed to penetrate the fabric. After staining, the bound areas remain unpainted. The process of binding and dyeing can be repeated several times when working with multiple colors. The fabric is then woven into the pattern in which the yarn is dyed.
Akaaro is a design studio in New Delhi of designer Gaurav Gupta. Working with unconventional materials on traditional looms is his specialty. For example, he often works with woven copper, steel and monofilament silk. Everything is developed on the jacquard handloom in the studio in New Delhi. Akaaro has a zero-waste policy, which means that nothing is wasted and leftovers are reused.
