This plum red jacket has a beautifully sturdy structure of coarsely spun cotton. The cotton is spun at home by a spinner with an authentic Ghandi spinning wheel. The fabric is then woven on a hand loom by a local weaver at home.
Spinning and weaving at home is a solution for many people in remote villages. They do not have to leave their village to work and can set a time schedule for their work themselves. In India, spinning and weaving was a crucial part of the local economy for a long time. It has almost completely disappeared with the emergence of large cotton factories and the fast fashion industry. Cotton Rack gives people a chance by having the fabrics for their collection made by people in the villages.
PLEASE NOTE: the autumn/winter version of the jacket is made with sleeves at wrist lenght (the pictures show the summer version with three-quarter sleeves).
