A shining warm wrap or shawl of merino wool and silk with a beautiful natural green color. Handwoven and dyed with vegetable dyes, handmade at the local Avani collective, in the foothills of the Himalayas.
The scarf is colored with environmentally friendly, vegetable dyes. That happens at Avani, an organization of the local residents of the Kumaon region in the Himalayas. The scarf is hand-woven with merino wool and wild Tussar silk by weavers in a remote mountain village. They receive a fixed salary for weaving scarves for Avani.
Tussar is wild silk from the moth Antheraea Paphia, also called the emperor moth. The moths live in trees and their silk thread cocoons naturally have a golden sheen. For this shawl the moths were not killed for this silk, but the caterpillars have left the silk cocoon before the cocoon is used to spin silk.
