The tie & dye technique (tying & dyeing) is especially popular in India and Japan. In India it is called Bandhani and in Japan Shibori. The principle is the same: pieces of fabric are tied with a thread or stitched together. The substance is then immersed in a dye bath. When the fabric is dry, all the threads are pulled apart in and removed in an instant.
Alimohammed is the maker of these scarves. He lives in the small village of Bhuj in northwestern India and devised to stitch the silk fabric together bit by bit lengthwise. The effect after dyeing with vegetable dyes is fantastic. The scarves have been given a very luxurious look. The vegetable colors are also homemade.
Alimohammed is the seventh generation that makes scarves by hand in this way.
