This fine deep brown scarf is pure Yak wool, undyed and unprocessed. The brown is beautifully deep, dark. Because the soft undercoat of the Yak is used for the scarf, the scarf is wonderfully soft.
The scarf is woven in the Himalayas. Yaks are native and domesticated by the local population. Yaks are used to plow land, they are ridden and their fur is used to make wonderful scarves.
The weavers of these yak shawls live in remote areas in the Himalayas in India and earn an income with their craftsmanship by weaving for Himalayan Weavers. Part of Himalayan Weavers' profits are used for education and health care in the villages.
