Soft wool sweater made of woven wool, 100% responsible and animal-friendly production. Undyed wool from Rajasthan sheep herds. Beautiful natural white with beautiful cowl collar. Read more..
This wool sweater is soft and supple, hand-woven from wool from Rajasthan sheep who are herded by shepherds who lead a nomadic life.
Unlike us, these sheep mainly graze leaves from shrubs and trees in the Thar desert. The sheep are of the original, native Indian species Magra and Nali.
For as long as shepherds have been tending these sheep, they have had weaving communities weave large scarves from the wool. These scarves measuring approximately 2.50 meters by 1.50 meters will keep the shepherds warm during the cold nights in the desert. The size of these scarves is just right to make clothes out of them. This is exactly what Via India is doing in collaboration with the Indian slow fashion label Cotton Rack.</p >
Today the traditional way of life of the shepherds is under threat. A non-profit foundation helps the herders by buying wool from them, having it woven by local hand weavers and marketing it. We buy the wool from this foundation.
