Handwoven cotton

The cotton fabric for this top is handwoven in West Bengal. Hand weaving is the most sustainable way to produce fabric because no electricity is used. Moreover, for many rural people in West Bengal, hand weaving is an economic activity that can be done at home or within the community. This way they earn an income in a safe way and they can be at home for their children. Hand weaving saves them from factory labor many hundreds or even thousands of miles away.

Jaipur design

The blouse is designed by Rias, a sustainable fashion label from Jaipur. Fashion designer Avishek himself comes from West Bengal and maintains personal contact with the weaver clusters that supply the fabrics for Rias.
