Desi, as this type of cotton is also called, is a type of cotton that can withstand drought and is naturally resistant to many diseases and pests. Other than the American engineered cotton that is on about 97 percent of the cotton fields in India. Farmers who dare to grow indigenous cotton again, get a helping hand from designers that Via India works with.
The dark blue color comes from vegetable indigo. A plant that produces fantastic colourfast shades when the cotton is dyed with it. It does give off in the wash, especially the first washes.
