Top with V-neck and wide three-quarter sleeves in hand-woven linen. Bright white, minimalist design. Fairly made and sustainably produced without electricity. Read more..
This minimalist top has a straight cut, a V-neckline and wide, straight three-quarter sleeves. There are splits on both sides. Simple in cut and beautiful in its simplicity. The linen has been washed, so that the natural gray color has made way for snow white. The top is slightly transparent. A nice bra underneath works wonders. Or a simple white shirt.
Weaving linen by hand is an intensive work and requires quite a bit of experience. Linen is made from flax. Flax naturally contains woody parts that must first be removed. This is done by breaking the fibers when the flax is thoroughly dry. The brittle structure of the fiber makes weaving linen a specialized job.
The craftsmanship of linen weaving in India is mainly found in weaving communities in West Bengal. The region where the famous muslin was woven centuries ago. This very soft and refined cotton is now extinct, but the mastery of fine weaving with cotton, silk and linen is still very much alive.
This skirt is a creation of the Sunbird label that works exclusively with hand-woven fabrics of organic origin. Each garment is cut by hand and sewn on simple sewing machines in a small design studio in New Delhi. Sunbird works on the basis of fair play and fair pay principles. The team of designer, tailor, seamstress and embroiderer works closely together on small collections on an equal basis.
