This long tunic made of very airy, hand-woven cotton is an eye-catcher. You can instantly brighten up your basic outfit. A unique lightweight tunic with literally a gold rim.(Note: sizes S/M and M/L have a slightly smaller checked design - see pictures - compared to the one the model wears)
The technique of weaving with gold thread is thousands of years old in India and is called Zari. Zari used to be reserved for noble families. Silk threads were wrapped with silver, galvanized with gold. This pure zari is still made but extremely expensive, so nowadays either copper (metallic zari) or polyester (plastic zari) is used as a base. These tunics are based on metallic zari.
The tunicsare designed by Sarita, one of the two sisters of the sustainable label Karomi. Their location is Calcutta (now Kolkata) in the state of West Bengal in India. They work closely with local hand weavers and make full use of the textile tradition for which the region is famous: the refined cotton and the excellent weaving in their collections.
The tunic has size pockets.
Sizes are in centimeters. Because these are hand crafted products, the dimensions are not exactly the same with every item.
