Vegetable indigo

The tunic is dyed with natural indigo. This beautiful deep blue color is obtained by fermenting the leaves of the plant indigofera tinctoria . A natural dye that has been used in many cultures for centuries. Dyeing with indigo is not easy. The fabric only gets its color if it is exposed to the air after the dye bath. Only then you'll see what hue the dye has taken. It takes years of training to master this properly.

The tunic is designed in the studio of Upasana . A fashion label but also a social enterprise. All employees have a voice in business operations. Upasana also initiates many projects for farmers who want to switch to organic cotton cultivation and for disadvantaged women.
